315. Culture and Communication 3-0-3
An introduction to the anthropological study of language, paralanguage and nonverbal communication in social and cultural contexts. Topics include: primate communication; laughter; language origins, change and death; language variation based on gender, ethnicity, and social class; the cross-cultural study of writing systems and literacy; and research methods in the anthropology of communication. PR: ANT 200 or SOC 200.
